4 More Ways to Protect Your FL Roofing from Humidity

South Florida summers can get very hot and humid, and that can cause problems for your roof. In our last blog post, we gave you some tips for protecting your FL roofing from the humidity. There’s more than you can do, however, so we’re continuing our list of tips. Even though the heat and humidity are already here, you can still continue to protect your roof and your home from mold growth, water damage, and other humidity-related issues.

How’s your roof holding up in the humidity? Here are some more tips to protect your FL roofing this summer.

Trim Overhanging Trees

Trees near your house can provide some welcome shade in the summer, but branches too near your roof can lead to problems. Too much shade can prevent your roof from drying out after wet weather, creating the conditions for mold and mildew to grow. If any branches overhang your roof, trim them back. Trimming the branches helps keep your roof dry and prevents debris from falling on it.

Apply a Moisture Barrier

For a more proactive measure, you can apply a moisture barrier or waterproof membrane under your roofing materials. This layer provides additional protection against moisture infiltration. Adding a moisture barrier can help prevent water damage and prolong the lifespan of your roof, especially in humid conditions like we experience here in South Florida.

Monitor and Maintain Gutters

If your home has gutters, ensure they are draining water away from your roof and foundation rather than allowing it to pool. Stagnant water can grow algae and other organisms that can damage your roof, as well as contribute to decay and other moisture damage.

Schedule Regular Inspections

No matter how diligently you are about maintaining your roof, there’s only so much you can do on your own. By scheduling regular inspections with a professional roofing company, you can catch minor issues before they turn into major problems. A professional roofer can identify moisture-related issues and resolve them before they cause lasting damage.
